This is a claim that one person has over another person's goods or property, especially if the goods are in the custody of the person who is entitled to such claim.


For example, a refrigerator repairer may claim a lien over a refrigerator repaired by him, if the owner owes some outstanding balance. The repairer may decide to exercise his right of lien by holding on to the refrigerator until his money is paid. However, the repairer does not have the right to sell the refrigerator so as to recover his money without a court order.
