A jurat a clause inserted into a document which contains wordings to show that the contents of such document have been read and interpreted to the understanding of one of the parties/signatories to the document who does not understand the language in which the document is written.

A document written in English language may contain a jurat to show that it has been interpreted in Yoruba language to a signatory to that document. A jurat must be included in every document where an illiterate or a blind person is a party (a signatory).
