Joint tenancy means property collectively owned by some people which does not belong to any of the co-owners. The property is not shared; so no portion can be said to belong to any of them. It cannot be sold or transferred by one or some of the co-owners without the agreement of all. Where one of the owners dies, the property passes to the living co-owners and not to the heirs of the dead co-owner.
