Accelerated hearing is an order given by a court in respect of a case which is meant to speed up the process of determining it. The order is usually made when a case has been in court for a long time or it is considered to deserve urgent determination and a case affected by this kind of order may be coming up in court on a daily basis or very frequently until it is finally decided.

Courts usually give criminal cases accelerated hearing so as to decongest prisons, among others.
