A posteriori is a process of arguing from the cause to the effect. It uses experiment or empirical observation to induce the cause of a particular set of facts.

Example:
George V reigned from 1910 to 1936. This is something that (if true) one must come to know a posteriori, because it expresses an empirical fact unknowable by reason alone.

See, a priori, a fortiori.
