point of view

The position of the narrator in relation to the story, in literature.


1. First-person point of view: a character narrates the story with "I, me, my" in his or her speech.


2. Second-person point of view: a character narrates the story with "you, your" in his or her speech.


3. Third-person point of view: a third-person narrator can be omniscient in which the narrator knows all of the thoughts and feelings of all of the characters in the story or the reader knows only one character’s thoughts in third-person limited point of view.


Third-person narration is the most commonly used narrative mode in literature.
